The Yard Sale

Two times a year hundreds of people in our community roll up their
garage doors and unload at least 6 months of junk onto their
driveways. Throw up some signs at the front of the neighborhoods and
voila!, every bargain hunter in a 3 county radius shows up to sort
through the madness.

This season's sale was scheduled for May 1st. So I figured I would
have plenty of time to sort through Marin's outgrown clothes after his
birthday party. Imagine the string of curse words that went flying
when I drove by Kroger last Thursday and saw the bright yellow signs
announcing that the yardsale had been moved up till the 17th of April!
What!?!?

This sent me into full fledged panic mode. If I was going to
participate, I now had one day to get ready! I usually need at least 3
days to sort, price, and hang all his clothes and whatever else we
plan on getting rid of. On Friday I spent from 9 am until 11:30
pm getting ready. It was a lot of work, but I could not have done it
without Matthew's help with Marin Friday evening and his runs to buy
more coathangers and take-out. Thanks hun!

6 am on Saturday came wayyy too early. I would not have been able to
function, if it had not been for my pals Carrie & Tara being here too.
They set up at the sale as well and we had a busy but fun day hawking
our wares.

The highlight of the day was the not one but two shoplifters we had.
Oh yes, I am serious. We did not run them down because we figured
someone who would steal from a yardsale had bigger problems. But geez,
seriously?!

While the shoppers did not come as early as they usually do, we were
doing heavy business by 8 am. Last year I made $75 dollars and was
happy with that. This year I nearly passed out when I counted out the
cash. $202.50! Who hoo! Not bad for selling outgrown baby stuff. Last
October I bought Marin's Bumbo seat and tray with the earnings. I
haven't decided what to do with this spring's stash yet.

We just found out the disappointing news that they do not plan on
having a community wide fall yardsale. Do you think that will stop
Carrie, Tara, and I from having our own? Nope, sure won't. The way I
see it, it just means less competition.
