Meet The Neighbors

Today was a busy day for Marin. Until today, the only reason he had been out of the house was to go to the pediatrician. Today we went on a big trip. We loaded up the car and went to pick up Chinese take out for Matthew and Wendy's for me. :) The trip lasted a whole 15 minutes and Marin and me sat in the car but it was nice to be out of the house and doing something. Today was the first day that I didn't feel like night of the living dead. Marin is doing just fine and seemed to enjoy the trip until he lost his sock in the car. He hates to have his feet cold and if he loses one of his socks you will definitely hear about it. We had to pull the car over on the side of the road so I could put it back on him. It was instant silence after that. He actually had big crocodile tears sliding down his cheeks he was so upset about the lost sock. Poor guy. I guess he likes being toasty.

For the past few days, we've been very antisocial. I even had a sign on the door asking the neighbors not to stop by because I didn't feel like seeing anyone. I had just had a baby and didn't feel like entertaining anyone. It was worded more nicely than that, but that was the long and short of it. Today we took down the sign. We're ready to face the world again. Not that I feel 100% or anything, but a week after the birth I will say that I feel a lot better. I even made a short trip out of the house alone to go to Joann Fabric to pick up something for a project I'm working on. I was only gone a half hour or so but that trip wore me completely out and I had to take a power nap to recuperate.

On our way out the door to Wendy's, we ran into 3 sets of neighbors and stopped and let them take a peek at Marin in the backseat. They all thought he was cute, of course. :) Everyone said they had been worried about us and had wanted to come over and bring us food. Dang it. I wish I knew someone wanted to feed me and I might have not put up that sign. ha.ha. I told them that we appreciated their thoughtfulness and that everyone is now welcome to stop by. Unfortunately, Marin is on quarantine by order of his pediatrician for at least the next 6 weeks. He's not allowed to go to the grocery store, mall, movies, or any other crowded place. No restaurants either. His doc even said we really shouldn't let anyone around him besides immediate family. So, if any neighbors stop by, we are going to have to bring him outside to see them. The reason behind the paranoia is the swine flu. The doctors are pretty scared of it, especially for newborns who haven't built up their immune systems yet. I will say that I am pretty nervous too. I don't want Marin to get sick, especially with something serious. So, we're following doctors orders. Hopefully everyone understands that we're not just being overprotective parents. We just want to do what is best for our little guy and if his doctor says no visitors but family, we'll have to abide by that. Until then, if any family wants to come by and see us, feel free to. We'll just be hanging out here for the next few weeks. I'm sure Matthew has a lot more to add about Marin's quarantine. In the meantime, I thought I'd just make you all aware of it so you didn't think we were just avoiding you. :)
